How to Avoid Urinary Tract Infections

How to Avoid Urinary Tract Infections

You can acquire Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) when bacteria travel into your urethra or bladder. Women have a higher risk of getting UTIs than men. Yes, men can also get UTIs. Doctors usually recommend antibiotics to treat the infection. However, prevention is always better than cure.

Here are some ways to avoid getting urinary tract infections:

  1. Abstain from drinking too much coffee, soda or alcohol. This is because these beverages dehydrate your body and irritate your bladder.
  2. Avoid eating a lot of salty foods and sweets.
  3. Drink plenty of water daily. Water helps in cleansing your body from unwanted salt and sugar and also flushes out harmful toxins and bacteria.
  4. If you feel like peeing, refrain from holding it in because this likely increases the chance for the bacteria to make its way to your urethra. After peeing, make sure to wipe a clean tissue from front to back so you won’t get fecal particles in your urethra.
  5. If you’re sexually active, make sure to wash your genitals before and after having sex. You also need to ask your partner to perform the same hygiene. After the intercourse, try to urinate to flush out the bacteria that are still present near the urethra.

If you already have UTI, you may purchase your drug prescriptions at Broadway Pharmacy, a pharmacy in North Bergen, New Jersey. We have made pharmaceutical supplies in New Jersey available to help our community counter illnesses.
